How do I sew satin binding around a double layered Minky/Minkee blanket?
I am trying to sew satin binding around a double layered minky/minkee blanket for my daughter. I am fairly new to sewing but understand the basics. I am having the hardest time keeping the binding in place!! Any suggestions on how to sew the binding to the minky without bunching and slipping would be really appreciated!! Thank you!!!
Sandra
When I am working with most fabrics for hemming or slippery items I use a UHU Glue Stick. (Avery Glue Sticks are good too) I make long lines of the glue, fold up my pre pressed fabric and lightly iron it dry to hold it. I this case I would place my line of glue on the Minky, lay on the binding and press the binding lightly.I am assuming you have already ironed the binding to wrap around the Minky so just line it up and glue it down, press it on one side. Give that about 20 minutes to set. Then flip it over and do the same on the other side. If you find that it isn't even, just steam press the first side to release the glue and reposition the binding. When all is down and is dry just sew it up. I do this on nearly every garment I make, or project I may be working on. The glue washes out in the first wash, and it doesn't muck up my needle if it is dry. If it does muck up I just dampen a piece of scrap fabric and clean it off. Works very well.
